New Century Home

Buying your dream home, as Seth and Vicki Wyga of Fergus, Ontario found out, can be a real challenge.  From leaky basements to outdated bathrooms, bad wiring to shag carpet (although let it be noted shag is back ‘in’) purchasing a home can be a discouraging process.  Not so with Wyga.

As a long time employee with Wyga Construction, Seth was  acutely aware of the difficulty of building his own home in South-Western Ontario, namely the issue of land shortage.  Townships across our area have in recent years made the severance of land almost a thing of the past.  So what to do when your high flying ideas of your new home have nowhere to come down to earth to land on?  Renovate!

Seth and Vicki made the decision, as many wise home builders do, to see past the present state of a home, and look to its potential.  Purchasing a small century stone home in historical Fergus, the couple looked to transform.

The existing house was a 550’ stone home with a finished walkout basement with an ‘addition gone wrong’ on the walkout level.  The first order of business was to take the home back to its 1910 footprint.  Wyga removed the addition, and set out to giving this old-soul the compliment it deserved.  To start, the house was first gutted. Three cramped bedrooms upstairs were cleared out to make room for an existing kitchen that was to be re-worked, and moved from the basement up into the newly available space.  Next, a two story addition was added around the back of the old stone to give this growing family the space it needed.  Repointed stone by local artisans and reclaimed wide-plank elm flooring kept the historic feel to the house, while new quartz counter tops and wall-hung vanities bring a modern elegance that keeps the home from ever seeming outdated.  A large covered porch above the walk-out give this beautiful home the outdoor living space it deserves.

A renovation can be tricky business for those caught unaware.  Details of moving an existing kitchen up a floor, providing structural support for a true open concept main living room, and keeping the original historic integrity of a home can be a challenge, but not so with Wyga.  A team of local experts that have been compiled over the years of Wyga’s operation, make even the most difficult and involved renovations a stress free process.  Can’t see the potential in your home?  Call Wyga – we’ll show it to you.
